It is truly said that 'Home is where the heart is'. This transformation from 'house' to 'home' should always be a passion project. One can easily create a delightful and cosy home just by following a few simple home decor tips.

In today's jet-setting life an ideal home should be a no-nonsense, practical, clutter free and easy to maintain whether contemporary or eclectic.

Effective space planning and innovative ideas are very important since living spaces are getting smaller everyday. Don't get obsessive with any 'recent trends' just because it is 'in' ; focus instead on creating a personalised space.

Remember, a home speaks volumes about the home owner.

Always try to create a personalised look. Home is about an expression of individuality. Make your 'home' more of 'You' . Listen to your own heart and never get afraid of experimenting with new ideas. Add a personal touch with accessories, art and books.

A home may not be 'picture perfect' always. Rather, a comfortable and practical home is desirable, where we can unwind with family and friends. At least for me comfort comes first. A crisp, functional and easy space is really inviting after a long day.

Add a little 'Whimsy' to your decor. Effortless style is the best and the so called 'perfect' look is too monotonous at times. Finding beauty in the 'imperfect' is the real fun in design.

Colour...colour and colour. Colour can make a space cosier. Use seasonal colours and concepts for your home. Mix and match the heavy, bright coloured upholstery and fabrics with the lighter ones.

5. Bold and beautiful fabric can change the flavour of a room completely. Take maximum advantage of natural light.

If you are opting for vibrant colours for your rugs, pillows and other upholstery, use lighter shades on your walls. It gives the perfect balancing effect without going overboard.

Mix and match : Use antique pieces and artifacts from different periods and mix them with the modern ones. It adds an unique character to any space.

Always incorporate plants and fresh flowers into your decor. It can do wonders. A simple floral arrangement can instantly uplift your mood and transform any regular space.

Keep moving things around until it gives you the desired look. Use of mirrors is a smart and innovative way of making a room look bigger and brighter.

Incorporate things that soften the look, such as rugs, cushions and beautiful window treatment.

Mix different texture and material. Do not be afraid to experiment.

Try to avoid too many of tiny patterns. They make a room feel smaller.

Never underestimate flea markets and local fairs. Who knows you may find a treasure!!

Think out of the box and add some zing to your style.

Display your possessions artistically instead of tucking them away into a cupboard. Be around things you love.

Know when to stop, it is your home and it should not look like a museum .

Fatehpur Sikri:

The Mughal Sandstone Splendour

Far from the din and bustle of India's capital, New Delhi, yet close at hand in between the Delhi-Agra route, lies Fatehpur Sikri, a city that was once India's Capital for a brief period, but now bears a desolate and haunted look, yet testifies the architectural genius of the Mughal dynasty, which went on to produce more wonders like the Taj Mahal many years later.

The imperial city of the Mughal dynasty Fatehpur Sikri (The City of Victory) was built by the greatest Mughal Emperor Akbar at the beginning of 1570's. It was built in honour of the Sufi Saint Shaikh Salim Chisti, who lived in a cavern on the ridge at Sikri village about 40 kilometres from Agra and foretold the birth of the emperor's son (the future Jahangir), who was named Prince Salim after the Saint.

The Masterpiece of Mughal Architecture

Akbar experimented both with architecture and art and built this city expressing his ideals and vision. Sikri was the first planned city of the Mughals, and leaves proof of innovative town planning through its efficient drainage and water-supply system. The architecture of Fatehpur Sikri has a definite all-India character and embodies the noble ideals and the tolerant bent of Akbar's mind.

The city monuments exude the prolific and versatile Indo-Muslim composite style. These red sandstone monuments are one of the finest masterpieces of Mughal Architecture and is a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site.

Fatehpur Sikri was Akbar's capital for only around fifteen years. Within fifteen years of the city's foundation, the lake that was the natural source of water for this city, fell short of providing water to the growing population in this region. Besides, there were constant disturbances from the North Western frontier. All these made Akbar abandon Fatehpur Sikri and he chose Lahore as his new capital to fight against the Afghan tribes. This city since then has been bearing a desolate look as if waiting for its inhabitants to return some day.

is the auspicious day of 'Dhanteras' ...
when all the small earthen 'diyas' are lit up
and beautiful 'rangolis' are drawn at the entry way...
to welcome Goddess 'Lakshmi'
The Goddess of wealth.

On 'Dhanteras'
'Lakshmi' puja is performed with full devotion
to ensure prosperity,
and to drive away the shadows of evil spirits.
People buy gold or silver
or any other kinds of metal
as a sign of wealth or good luck :)

'Dhanteras' or 'Dhan Trayodashi'
is the very first day
of the five-days-long 'Diwali' festival,
' The Festival of Lights'...

'Dhan' means wealth and 'Tera' is thirteenth.
Dhanteras falls on
the auspicious thirteenth lunar day of 'Krishna paksha' (dark fortnight)
in the 'Hindu' month of 'Kartik' (October/November).

Flavour of Diwali....A letter from Singapore...:)

While I am busy writing this emotional post
living in a faraway land,
back home in India
the picture must be something like this:

All the small clay lamps are lit up by now;
the yellow of the Marigold,
the red of the 'Kum-kum',
the pink of the Lotus,
the garlands, sequins
'puja thalis' and 'rangolis',
are all painting beautifully
the dazzling images of Diwali, The Festival of Lights.

The word 'Diwali' originates from the Sanskrit word 'Deepavali'
which means 'Rows of Lights' !
The auspicious 'Ammavaasa'
in the month of 'Kartik',
the glittering 'diyas' and lanterns,
and the beautiful fireworks and sound of crackers
announces the arrival of the most vibrant festival of my country.

While my humble nest is slowly getting the makeover

for The Festival of Joy and Happiness,

the lady of the house

is deeply missing

the magical flavour of her motherland.

When the whole world is soaking in

the warm autumn colours...

happy yellow, bright orange

burnt red and gold...

then comes 'Diwali',

our very own 'Autumn Festival'!

Diwali celebrates the return of Lord Rama

after his 14 years of exile...

this is The Festival of Home Coming

Yes, happy home coming...

and when India calling....

Yes, for me Diwali means India.

To be precise, it is Delhi,

the gorgeous capital city

which is ever enthusiastic

in celebrating life.

Beautiful autumn in Northern India,

fragrant, crisp air,

people dressed in vibrant colours,

a festive mood everywhere,

'pujas' in temples,

flowers and garlands,

Marigold and Lotus,

'Haldi' and 'Kum-kum',

long queues in front of 'mithai' (sweet) shops,

fairs and exhibitions in every nook and corner,

and dazzling fireworks in display ;

Yes, I can keep going on and on...

To add, special offerings made to Goddess 'Lakshmi',

The Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity.

This is the festival

to drive away the shadows of evil,

to enlighten the inner soul,

to express the warm Indian hospitality.

This is another gorgeous 'Diwali'
in this stunning tropical island.
I am off to prepare some sweets for family and friends

This is my third visit to 'The Kingdom' so far...and I'm completely amazed by it's rich history, heritage and culture . Truly 'THE KINGDOM is AMAZING!!!'

Bangkok ~ The beautiful Thai capital is an independent, dynamic, influential and one of the leading cities of South East Asia. The dazzling, spectacular Grand Palace of Bangkok is a grand old dame indeed. It is undoubtedly the city's most famous landmark. Built in 1782 and served for 150 years as the home of the Thai Kings.The palace has remained the seat of spirituality and power in Thailand .
Here, a salute to the creativity and craftsmanship of the very talented Thai people.

Kinnon/Kinnor ( The male version of Kinnoni/Kinnori~ Mythological creature...half bird, half human at Wat Phra Kaew Temple ( Temple of The Emerald Buddha)....inside the Grand Palace complex, Bangkok.

For the last couple of days the atmosphere was not so pleasant on this blog !! ...You may get the whole story HERE...but at the end 'Life is a continuous process of learning'..and all such negative experiences are 'part of the game'....!

The outcome so far...the picture from my blog is still up there on the WEBSITE (yes,in spite of my repeated write ups/ complains/ mails/ comments etc.) PLAGIARISM thrives unashamedly....!! :(

Meantime RAINBOW has managed to change it's getup...well a little bit !:) The Template has been changed, the old banner is again back here (yes, the same picture which was conveniently stolen), ....and a few more changes here and there....and of course all the pictures are 'watermarked' from now on:)

Plagiarism !...most of us are pretty familiar with this word in blogland !! It's really disgusting to see somebody stealing your article or picture and reusing it without mentioning the proper source at all...!!

Ethnic Home Decor Store is using my picture without my permission and doesn't even bother to give due credit to the actual source. I have written to them/ her to either acknowledge my work OR, to remove the picture completely from The Article, but this has gone in vain.

My regular readers, followers, my bloggy pals...you must have been familiar with this picture from My Blog,

which was also my old banner and till date you can find it on my sidebar....! This picture from my post is being used without my permission. I have commented on the particular post but it has been deleted by The Website owner. Isn't this really disgusting???

Here is the WEBSITE and the post Three Must Have Accessories For Indian Inspired Home Decor which has stolen my picture and clandestinely used it.

I've already found that a number of blogs/ websites are using my photographs...[but so long as they are acknowledging the source and providing due credit with the link to my blogsite, I have no qualms]...If someone is really interested in my work/ blog/ photos and would like to use them, I would appreciate if the person approaches me with an email!

Friends, I Need Your Help to end this menace!....The next victim can be anyone from you. Let us fight Plagiarism together! Say 'NO' to it !!

A Creative Weekend...My Madhubani Art !:)

As usual the weekend was crazily busy....with a long to do list..! Shopping, cooking ,cleaning, kids school homework to be finished, activity classes, my own work, hubby's office party, friends to visit, barbecue on the beach...oops!!..mad!..mad!..mad!!
Tooooo much work to do...in soooo little time...??... But, at the end you know I love multitasking ...as it gives me immense satisfaction :)

Anyway,over the weekend I have managed to finish this one...my first MADHUBANI Painting...here it goes..on my tabletop :)
